For most short-term volunteers, such as those who would like to teach English in McLeodGanj, best place to start is the LHA Community Centre in the main bazaar of McLeodGanj. They should be able to help you find a good short-term volunteer position.

For those interested in long-term human rights work (minimum six months), you can try contacting the Tibetan Center for Human Rights and Democracy.

If you’re interested in volunteering in the Indian villages just below Dharamshala and you can commit to six months or more, consider volunteering for NISHTHA or Jagori Grameen.

And if you’re interested in sustainable living (including green building, organic farming, permaculture, etc.) and meditation, you can volunteer at the Dharmalaya Institute in Bir (about 2-3 hours east of Dharamshala).
