 What: Volunteer & service-learning opportunity

Activities: Earthen building, organic gardening, and natural landscaping

When: 4-13 December 2017 (volunteers must attend from the beginning and stay until the end).

Languages: English & Hindi

Facilitators: No formal facilitation or training, but as-needed guidance from Dharmalaya staff and artisans

Description: Volunteer opportunities at the Dharmalaya Institute open to both residential and non-residential participants. During this period, the focus is on doing physical work to support the construction of earthen buildings on the Dharmalaya Institute’s campus, and possibly work in the organic gardens. Tre is no formal educational or training programme as such, but plenty of hands-on work will be done — including earthen building (adobe, stone, bamboo, etc.), organic gardening, natural landscaping and possibly some tree planting.

Topics: Vernacular eco-architecture of the Himalayas, organic gardening, meditation

Where: Dharmalaya Institute in Bir, HP, India

When: 13-19 March 2017 (must attend from the start)

Language: English (with Hindi translation if needed)

Facilitators: Dharmalaya faculty and artisans, e.g. Mark Moore, Naresh Sharma, et al.

Description: Residential service-learning programme at the Dharmalaya Institute providing hands-on training in earthen construction . Learn to build eco-friendly structures in the neo-traditional Kangra style of esteemed eco-architect Didi Contractor, while contemplating our relationship with nature and the values of sustainable and compassionate living. Group meditation sessions morning and evening.
