Compassionate Living Intensive (29 Oct - 6 Nov 2018)

What: Intensive workshop-retreat (residential)

Topic: Designing a life of compassion in action, integrating personal and professional development with a lifestyle of sustainable thriving

When: 29 October through 6 November 2018 (must attend from the start and stay for the duration)

Language: English (with Hindi translation if requested)

Facilitators: Mark Moore and other members of the Dharmalaya faculty and community

Description: Nine-day residential service-learning programme in a workshop-retreat format, exploring both the outer and inner aspects of a compassionate and sustainable life, including organic gardening and permaculture, natural building, healthy cooking and eating, meditation, mindful movment (yoga/chi kung), and more.

Volunteer Work Period (17 Sep - 6 Oct 2018)

What: Volunteer Work Period

Activities: Whatever work is needed on each day, which might include work with earthen building, rainwater harvesting systems, organic gardening, natural landscaping, or anything else that might be required.

When: 17th September through 6th October 2018. Note: Volunteers must arrive at 10:30am on the morning of 17th September and commit to stay until 6th October.

Languages: English & Hindi

Facilitators: The initial three-day orientation and training will be facilitated by our senior interns and local artisans. After that, there will be no formal facilitation or training, but as-needed guidance from Dharmalaya staff and artisans.

Description: This Volunteer Work Period will begin with a three-day orientation and training (which all volunteers must attend from the beginning). This will provide an introduction to how we do things at Dharmalaya Institute, as well as basic hands-on training on site during the day, followed by evening sessions that will provide a brief introduction to some of the concepts that guide our work. After the first three days, the focus will be on doing physical work to support the needs of the Institute, whatever they may be on a given day. Note that during our Volunteer Work Periods there is no formal educational or training programme as such (other than the very basic introductions given during the first three days), but you will have opportunities to learn through service while working alongside our local team.

Facilitators: Mark Moore, Naresh Sharma, and members of the faculty of Dharmalaya Institute

Description: Twelve-day residential service-learning programme in a workshop-retreat format at the Dharmalaya Institute, exploring both the outer and inner aspects of a compassionate and sustainable life. This holistic programme will touch on the major spheres of compassionate living, including food, shelter, water, energy, consumption and waste, and other important areas, providing a broad conceptual overview supported by practice. Activities will include hands-on training in earthen building and organic gardening with a daily programme of meditation and traditional Himalayan wisdom, conscious movement and healthy food. Learn the basics of earthen (adobe) consctruction, and learn to grow, cook and eat tasty and nourishing, plant-based (vegan) meals, all while contemplating our relationship with nature and the values of sustainable and compassionate living. Deepen your practice with morning and evening group meditation sessions and mindful movement (yoga or chi kung) in the mornings.
