Overview

Program Type : Online

Topic : Meditation & the Creative Process

Dates : 19th-23rd August 2020 (One group call per week x 6 Weeks)

Language : English

Facilitator : Mai-Linh

Key features of the course:

  • Meditation programme integrating the creative process with Healing and personal growth

  • Wisdom and practices from Tibetan Bön Buddhist master Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche

  • The text for this course is Rinpoche’s book, Spontaneous Creativity: Meditations for Manifesting your Positive Qualities (which we are using as the text for this course with Rinpoche’s blessing and support)

In this course, we will explore practices that support us to connect to the source of creativity within us, and we will work with ourselves in order to activate our creative potential. Through both conversation and meditation practice, this course will lead us on a journey from the source of creativity to full expression of our potential in our lives.

This course is for you if:

  • You wish to connect more deeply with yourself and tap into your creative potential.

  • You want to work with your blockages and heal your pain so you can manifest more of your full potential.

  • You want to channel your creativity fruitfully and manifest your positive potential in your relationships and in your work.

  • You aspire to create, live, and serve in a sustainable, balanced way.

‘The purpose of meditation is to connect us with the sacred ground of being, and there are many ways to make that connection. For a musician, playing an instrument can be a meditation. For someone who loves to cook, preparing a meal can be a sacred practice. Any activity can be a meditation if you are connected to the spaciousness of being—the source—when you give it a voice or form.’ — From Rinpoche’s book, Spontaneous Creativity (p. 12)

Here’s an overview of some of the themes we’ll cover:

  • The essence of creativity

  • How to connect with the source of creativity, activate your creative potential and express it in ways that benefit both yourself and others

  • Recognizing and working with blockages, transforming obstacles

  • The power of openness: connecting with the unbounded space of our natural state of being, discovering the power of spaciousness

  • The power of awareness: mindfulness for healing

  • The power of inspiration: connecting with your positive qualities, healing our pain

    • Working with emotional energy and undigested experiences;

    • Nourishing the spark of creativity

  • The power of manifestation: awakening the power of taking action and expression

  • Sacred arts: expression and release/healing of pain and blockages through sacred arts

    • Opening to hidden emotions and expressing them clearly and skilfully through any form that attracts you

‘Rushen* expression is a powerful way of doing artwork. Through this process, you are able to heal inner wounds, release blockages, and free yourself from whatever frozen emotions and thoughts have imprisoned you.’

*Rushen is a practice in which one uses arts or whatever skills or inclinations one has as a vehicle for expressing emotion and for releasing blocked energy to allow positive qualities to emerge.

‘There is an internal map or guidance system to help us move from pain to freedom, from feeling blocked to feeling open and expressive—a map that helps us discover the hidden treasure of our aspirations and visions, and bring forth our gifts in this lifetime.’ — From Rinpoche’s book, Spontaneous Creativity (p. 31)

Conditions of participation

  • To get the best of this course and support real transformation, you will need to participate in all of the sessions, as the programme is cumulative (each session will build upon the previous session). Since the course is interactive, you will get the best results by joining the calls and participating live. (Sessions will be recorded so in case a session is missed it can be viewed later to catch up, but this is not recommended as you would miss out on the benefit of live interaction. In this case, you would need to watch the video to catch up on the contents of the session and do the homework before the following session.)

  • All participants will need to buy the book Spontaneous Creativity by Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche (available both in print and digitally for Kindle, as well as an Audible audiobook).

  • All participants should read the first two chapters of the book before the beginning of the course (on 19th July 2020), as session 1 of the course will explore the material presented in chapters 1 and 2.

  • There will be assignments for study and practice in between each of the weekly calls, which all participants are expected to do in a timely way in order to keep up with the group experience.

  • Some of the practices can be supported by chanting for those who wish to practice in that way.

Dates and times

The course will unfold in six sessions (of 75-90 minutes each) on Sundays starting on 19th July 2020, continuing until 23rd August 2020. There might be a follow-up course offered after this one, to be announced at a later date.

Timing for the group calls would be such that people in different time zones would be able to participate, e.g. starting somewhere between 5:00pm and 7:00pm IST (India Standard Time), which would be morning in the Americas, midday in Europe, and late evening in East/SE Asia.
